ROXY NIGHTCLUB T-SHIRT | AMSTERDAM HOUSE LEGEND

The Roxy Nightclub T-shirt is a BINKY tribute to one of Amsterdam's most influential early house venues. Club RoXY opened in 1987 inside the former auditorium of a cinema at Singel 465-467. Over the next twelve years, music, performance, fashion, art and queer self-expression turned the club into far more than a dancefloor.

FROM CINEMA TO TOTAL ARTWORK

RoXY did not invent house music, but it became one of the places where the sound acquired a distinctive Amsterdam identity. Constantly changing interiors, theatrical programming and an expressive crowd helped make every night feel temporary, unpredictable and alive.

THE MYTH OF THE SINGEL

The selective door became almost as famous as the club itself. Some visitors experienced exclusion outside, while others found unusual freedom and recognition inside. That tension is central to the RoXY legend and to the entrance-card-inspired graphic on this retro house T-shirt.

THE FINAL NIGHT

Peter Giele died on 16 June 1999. After his burial on 21 June, a memorial gathering took place at RoXY. Accounts say that sparks from indoor fireworks entered the ventilation system and caused the fire that devastated the nightclub interior. RoXY never reopened, although the building itself survived.

THE DESIGN

The graphic is a BINKY interpretation inspired by club access, membership and the famous threshold on the Singel. It is a tribute to RoXY's cultural memory, not an official archival reproduction or a claim of affiliation with the original club.
