In 1987, a few geniuses decided to turn an old cinema into a sanctuary where anything goes. And we mean anything. The interior was bizarre, the people were bizarre, and the vibe was pure theater. At the RoXY, you were too busy surviving to worry about your phone. It was the Big Bang of House music in Amsterdam.

A FUNERAL WITH FIREWORKS

Everything ends. But the RoXY did not fade out: it went out in an inferno. In 1999, during the funeral ceremony of mastermind Peter Giele inside the club, the place caught fire. Some say it was fireworks, some say a fallen candle. The myths are bigger than the truth.

The club burned down completely: to the ground.
Giele took his baby to the grave with him. "If I go, everything goes."
That is not tragedy: that is pure rock 'n roll.
